How many countries have you visited?

It should be noted that there is no definitive list of "countries of the world" as the term "country" does not only refer to a sovereign state but also to a political and/or administrative division with varying degrees of autonomy, making its classification subjective.

In the list, we have also included non-sovereign territories but characterized by cohesive geographical entities with different degrees of autonomy, yet united by history, geography, ethnicity, language, and culture, sometimes very different from the sovereign state they depend on (see, for example, overseas territories).

We have included the constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as they are significantly different; following the same logic, we did not include the constituent countries of the United Kingdom as they are homogeneous territories of the same geographical entity (an island).

That said, the list includes 196 sovereign states recognized by the United Nations (of which only 193 are members), Taiwan (not a UN member), France's Overseas Territories (DOM, COM, and TOM), the constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (Aruba, Curaçao, Neetherland, Sint Maarten), the EU Special Member State Territories, and other autonomous territories such as Antarctica, Tibet, the Azores, Gibraltar, Madeira, Svalbard, etc., for a total of 250 countries.
